Navy starts the bidding for $4B shipboard network recompete

Companies can now start getting their proposals together in pursuit of a place on a Navy $4.1 billion contract to continuously upgrade the products and systems supporting shipboard networks.
The Navy is now ready for industry to put in their bids for the next iteration of a potential $4.1 billion contract vehicle for products and services that support networks onboard surface ships.
Proposals for the recompete of Consolidated Afloat Networks and Enterprise Services contract are due April 14 with an anticipated award date of Dec. 15, the Navy said in the solicitation released Wednesday.
No planned number of winners is indicated in the request for proposals detailing the 10-year CANES Increment 2 contract covering full production.
Awardees will compete for delivery orders to supply hardware, software and other materials and solutions in support of the Navy’s effort to consolidate its existing and standalone afloat networks.
The Navy uses the CANES contract as a commercial-off-the-shelf systems integration effort with a rolling baseline approach to continuously upgrade the network and mitigate issues with parts being obsolete.
CANES provides processing, storage and end user-devices for all levels of classification to use in email, web, chat and other collaboration functions.
