General Dynamics books $922M Central Command IT award

General Dynamics' IT services unit has secured a potential six-year, $922 million task order to help modernize Central Command's enterprise IT infrastructure.

CENTCOM's area of responsibility covers 21 countries across Northeast Africa, the Middle East, and Central and South Asia. The command is seeking to further operationalize its data and also move into a cloud computing environment, GDIT said Thursday.

CENTCOM is also looking to apply artificial intelligence and machine learning technologies into its decision-making functions, plus move into more of a zero trust posture for cybersecurity.

The General Services Administration awarded the order in February through the Alliant 2 IT solutions vehicle and received three bids in total, according to Federal Procurement Data System records.

GDIT can also tout this win as a takeaway that unseats incumbent Science Applications International Corp., according to Deltek data. SAIC won the work in 2017 and also via a task order, which carries a $678.1 million ceiling and expires on April 30.
