Peraton books $1B Interior cloud contract

The window for protests has closed, which frees Peraton to take on its role as the department's new enterprise cloud integrator and broker.
Peraton has received the green light to proceed on an 11-year, $1 billion contract to help the Interior Department build out a standardized cloud infrastructure environment.
Interior originally chose Peraton in mid-June 2023, but General Dynamics IT and Science Applications International Corp. each filed protests to challenge that decision.
The department pulled back the original award to take a second look at proposals and has again selected Peraton, which announced the contract in a press release Wednesday.
Peraton's announcement indicates no one has protested the re-evaluation of bids for the Cloud Hosting Solutions III contract and means the company can start the work.
Interior is looking to transition to a single hybrid enterprise cloud cluster for the department, its components and other mission partners across government can use.
Under the new contract, Peraton will act as the lead enterprise cloud broker to help Interior acquire storage and applications across multiple infrastructure providers.
The current CHS II contract covers cloud hosting services across the department through a virtual data center hosted by Amazon Web Services. CHS III therefore represents a move by Interior to lean on multiple cloud providers and a single integrator, in this case being Peraton.
CHS III includes an initial three-year base period, followed by three option periods of two years each that would take the contract to its full duration.
