This on-ramp round of awards focuses on the vehicles' underlying technologies such as payloads, mission support systems and the needed autonomy to control them.

The Navy has added 49 companies to a potential 10-year, $982.1 million contract first awarded in 2020 for work on unmanned surface vehicles.

This on-ramp process for the Unmanned Surface Vehicle Family of Systems contract grows the number of firms involved to 88, all of which are competing for delivery orders to work on all aspects of USVs.

Navy officials set up the on-ramp contract to focus on the vehicle's underlying technologies that include payloads, non-payload sensors, mission support systems, autonomy and vehicle control systems, ashore and host platform elements, and logistics and sustainment.

For the initial round, the Navy sought a diverse group of platform manufacturers and technology integrators to aid in the branch's push for more vessels without sailors.
