North Point Defense started in 2012 to develop automation-centric technologies for defense and intelligence operators.
General Atomics Integrated Intelligence Inc., the energy and defense conglomerate’s arm focused on data-centric products, has acquired a provider of signal processing and data distribution solutions for national security programs.
Founded in 2012, North Point Defense develops complex digital signals communications technologies for defense and intelligence operators looking to automate indicators and warnings across multiple domains. Terms of the transaction announced Monday were not disclosed.
The GA-III business was formerly known as General Atomics Commonwealth Computer Research, which started in 1989 as a custom software development and engineering specialist.
In purchasing NPD, GA-III aims to further build out a portfolio of artificial intelligence- and machine learning-based technologies in ISR (intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance).
“As part of a mission-focused organization with a proven track-record in tactical intelligence across the DOD (Defense Department) and IC (intelligence community), we can accelerate innovation and deployment at scale,” NPD’s president Bruce Venenati said in a release.
“The integration of NPD technologies into a division of GA-III is a strategic shift, enhancing GA’s ability to innovate rapidly and provide greater value to customers with end-to-end ISR solutions that are more efficient, effective, and technologically advanced.” added Brian Ralston, president of GA-III.
Baird acted as the exclusive financial adviser to NPD, whose legal counsel was Miles & Stockbridge.
