Sovereign Capital's first investment is its acquisition of majority ownership in a small business seen as having potential for faster growth.

Cherokee Federal has established a new investment arm for backing other government services companies that it sees as having growth potential and being at a new inflection point.

Sovereign Capital will predominantly concentrate on founder-led businesses that will also receive advice on strategy through this arrangement.

Investment number one announced Tuesday sees Sovereign Capital acquire the majority ownership of Advanced Technology Applications, a small business founded in 2008. Terms of that transaction were not disclosed.

ATA touts a client base that includes the Defense and Homeland Security departments, plus intelligence agencies. The company also describes its products and technologies as spanning mission sets such as aviation, space, defense, emergency management and enterprise modernization.

With Sovereign Capital’s support, ATA will look to further grow its footing across programs involving data engineering and other tech-centric work. ATA says its team members, partners and customers cover 25 states across the country.
