Cubic brings in new transportation business leader

This major hire takes place two years after the company was taken private.
Cubic Corp. has hired a new leader for its transportation systems division in Peter Torrellas, a nearly three-decade infrastructure sector veteran who joins from Parsons Corp.
Torrellas transitioned into the role of president of transportation systems following the retirement of Jeff Lowinger after three years of leading that business, the company said Monday.
San Diego-headquartered Cubic’s hire of Torrellas takes place two years after the company was acquired by private equity firm Veritas Capital and the PE arm of activist investor Elliott Investment Management.
Then in early 2022, Cubic announced the dual appointments of three-decade defense-and-aerospace veteran Stevan Slijepcevic as chief executive and former Perspecta CEO Mac Curtis to chair the board of directors.
Cubic Transportation Systems is a technology integrator for agencies and municipal partners around the world, including fare collection systems for public transit operators.
The CTS team also operates back-end and central IT systems for that group of customers. Cubic’s other major division is defense-focused with the name of Mission and Performance Solutions.
Torellas joins Cubic from Parsons Corp., where he was president of its connected communities business unit that includes much of the latter company’s infrastructure work in areas like rail systems and aviation.
He is also the founder of Parsons X, the company’s digital transformation and delivery arm that seeks to bring all of the business units together when converged opportunities present themselves to Parsons.
His career also includes roles such as managing partner for digital cities and infrastructure at Siemens’ professional services team, and head of smart cities and communities at that global software conglomerate’s smart infrastructure.
