Verizon touts $887M in Labor telecom awards

The Labor Department has finalized its award of a block of five task orders to Verizon with a combined $887 million ceiling for modernization work on that agency’s communications and IT environment.

Verizon said Wednesday it will work with Labor to move approximately 20,000 users into a more converged data and voice network that includes data, voice, unified communications, video services and enterprise applications.

Cloud computing, fiber, broadband and wireless solutions will all be a part of Verizon’s overall offering for Labor under these awards.

Labor finalized these awards as a follow-up from a prior task order, where Verizon transitioned the department’s co-located hosting service requirements from the former Networx contract to the current Enterprise Infrastructure Solutions vehicle.

EIS is the federal government’s main mechanism for acquiring telecommunication services and is the successor to both the Networx and WITS-3 contracts slated to sunset in 2023.

Deltek data indicates that to-date, Verizon has been obligated the largest amount of EIS task order spending at approximately $301 million.

The five task areas Verizon will focus on for Labor also include the deployment of seven new ports to support the agency’s Managed Trusted Internet Protocol Service and creation of an enterprise cloud computing environment.
