L3Harris takes $1B Space Force contract

L3Harris Technologies wins a $1.2 billion contract to help the new Space Force modernize the military's space surveillance systems.
L3Harris Technologies has won a potential 10-year, $1.2 billion contract with the newly-stood up Space Force to help maintain and modernize the military’s network of space surveillance systems.
This new contract is called MOSSAIC -- Maintenance of Space Situational Awareness Integrated Capabilities -- and expands the company’s scope of work to space situational awareness sensors, command-and-control systems, and battle management C2 capabilities.
The award was announced Feb. 25 on Beta.Sam.Gov, the new website for tracking federal contracting opportunities that replaced FedBizOpps.gov.
MOSSAIC is the successor contract to one that the former Harris Corp. first won in 2002 to help the Air Force maintain telescopes that track objects in geostationary orbits. Harris merged with L3 Technologies last year.
Space Force was founded in December and took over from the Air Force the command of Space and Missile Systems Center, which was responsible for the MOSSAIC procurement. L3Harris bested one other bid for the contract, according to the Pentagon’s Feb. 25 awards digest.
