U-Nebraska research arm gets $92M Stratcom support contract

A research institute based at the University of Nebraska has received a seven-year, $92 million contract to support research-and-development functions for Strategic Command.

The Air Force awarded the contract on a sole-source basis for work to take place at the university in Lincoln, Nebraska and its medical center in Omaha, the Defense Department said in its Thursday contracts digest.

Started in 2012, the National Strategic Research Institute in Nebraska is one of 13 University Affiliated Research Centers in the U.S. that DOD collaborates with to ensure that essential engineering and technology capabilities of particular importance to the military are maintained.

This contract for NSRI covers engineering, research and development capabilities and mission-related research to include tests, evaluation, and systems analyses of related topics for Stratcom.

NSRI also works with other DoD components and federal agencies on initiatives to combat weapons of mass destruction.
