Peraton promotes Bontzos, unveils business structure

Peraton has promoted a long-time veteran of the business in Gus Bontzos to president of its defense and electronic warfare sector, one of two sectors at the government technology contractor formerly known as Harris Corp. IT Services.

Herndon, Va.-based Peraton said Thursday the sector Bontzos leads will be the company’s main research-and-development hub and support programs at Defense Department laboratories, the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency and Intelligence Advanced Research Projects Agency.

Bontzos’ career includes leadership roles at Harris, Exelis and ITT. In 2011, ITT spun off its defense business to form Exelis, which Harris then acquired in 2015.

Harris then divested the company now known as Peraton to Veritas Capital last year. Peraton has since hired sector veteran Stu Shea as CEO, Jeremy Wensinger as chief operating officer and several others to its leadership team.

The company more recently named intelligence community veteran Roger Mason as president of its space, intelligence and cyber sector.

In addition, Peraton also announced two new business units in homeland security and communications. The homeland security unit covers DHS, the State and Veterans Affairs departments, and defense health.

The communications unit will focus on intelligence, defense, civil and commercial customers and aim to grow the company’s footprints in the government satellite and terrestrial markets.

Peraton plans to announce leaders for those two units at a later date, the company said.
