L3 adds former MDA chief O'Reilly

L3 Technologies has appointment retired Army Lt. Gen. and former Missile Defense Agency Director Patrick O’Reilly as corporate vice president of engineering.

The hire takes effect immediately and O’Reilly will report to Chief Technology Officer Paul DeLia, L3 said Tuesday. O’Reilly will lead efforts to advance cross-segment technology development in the midst of increased military demand for complex systems.

O’Reilly is the second major executive appointment L3 has disclosed in as many days as the defense contractor said Tuesday it hired former Navy acquisition chief Sean Stackley as corporate vice president of strategic advanced programs and technology.

That also comes amid a change at the top as Chris Kubasik succeeded the now-retired Michael Strianese as CEO on Jan. 1.

O’Reilly retired from the military in 2013 after a 35-year career that culminated in four years as chief of MDA. Prior to L3 and after retirement, he joined waste heat recovery technology maker Alphabet Energy as senior vice president for government and defense.
