BlackSky wins Air Force geospatial data cloud contract

Seattle-based BlackSky will build a new cloud-based data broker platform for the Air Force Research Laboratory under a two-year, $16.4 million contract.
Seattle-based space technology company BlackSky has received a two-year, $16.4 million contract to build a new cloud-based data broker platform for the Air Force Research Laboratory.
The company and AFRL envision the platform as one that can supply on-demand analytics, collection and information services to analysts. The lab awarded the contract on a cost-plus-prime basis, BlackSky said Tuesday.
AFRL sought BlackSky's experience in geospatial intelligence, remote sensing, cloud-based architectures, geospatial analysis and machine learning.
BlackSky is owned by commercial space and satellite outfit Spaceflight Industries and maintains an office in Herndon, Va.
