Who won July's biggest contracts?

July continues the streak of a rising number of contract awards that Washington Technology has covered since the beginning of the year. 

In terms of contract values, July was a little more modest than June; to make July’s list, you had to have a contract worth $138 million or above, as opposed to June’s $316 million.

Washington Technology covered 62 awards in July, and while it beat out the 61 in June by just one contract, it’s still a significant increase over the 52 in May, the 45 in April, the 30 in March, and the 13 in February.

Interestingly, only three of the top 10 are multiple award contracts, and one of those involves only two winners.

So, starting at No. 10, the countdown begins:

10. Lockheed Martin wins $138.5M extension of CTSS II contract

Lockheed Martin has won a $138.5 million contract modification with the Defense Information Systems Agency to provide communications technical support services.

Under the contract, Lockheed Martin will provide communications technical support services for the U.S. Air Force Central Command.

9. 2 win $166.3M option for systems engineering of tactical radios

Data Link Solutions and ViaSat Inc. have each won a $166.3 million option for systems engineering and integration of the multifunctional information distribution system, or MIDS, low volume terminal and the MIDS joint tactical radio systems terminal.

The MIDS low volume terminal provides secure, high-capacity, jam-resistant, digital data and voice communications capability for Navy, Air Force and Army platforms, the Defense Department said.

8. Northrop wins $173M contract for advanced targeting system

Northrop Grumman has won a five-year, $173 million performance-based logistics contract with the Defense Department to support the new LITENING advanced targeting system.

The LITENING system allows aircrews to identify and engage targets under a range of battlefield conditions with its infrared device, laser imaging sensors, image processing and digital video output.

Under the contract, Northrop Grumman will provide logistics support, technical support to the field, aircrew and maintenance training, depot repairs and other associated services, the company said in a release.

7. Raytheon wins $280M contract to support next-gen jammers

Raytheon has won a $279.4 million contract with the U.S. Navy to provide developmental efforts in support of the Next Generation Jammer Program.

The Next Generation Jammer Program will replace the aging ALQ-99 tactical jamming system for integration on the EA-18G tactical aircraft, the Defense Department said in a release.

Specifically, Raytheon will provide developmental efforts in support of the program's Technology Development Phase, which is meant to develop a cost-effective electronic attack system with increased interoperability, extended broadband capabilities for greater threat coverage, and enhanced agility and precision within jamming assignments.

BAE Systems has filed a protest of this award, which is still pending.

6. Lockheed Martin nabs $295M contract mod for Aegis development

Lockheed Martin Mission Systems and Training has won a $295 million contract modification with the Missile Defense Agency to provide system engineering and program management services.

Under the contract, Lockheed Martin will provide system engineering and program management services to continue the development of Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense Baseline for the advanced efforts which support the 5.1 variant through the Critical Design Review level of maturity, the Defense Department said.

5. ASRC wins $403M NASA Ames IT contract

ASRC Research and Technology Solutions has won a $403.4 million contract with NASA to provide IT services in support of research, engineering, maintenance and operations for Ames Research Center.

The ARC Information Technology Services 3 contract is a small-business set-aside contract that will last five years, with a two-year base and three option years.

4. Unisys scores $460M contract to modernize border protection systems

Unisys Corp. has won a $460 million task order contract with the Homeland Security Department to support its Border Enforcement and Management Systems Program Office.

Under the five-year contract, which has a one-year base and four option years, Unisys will operate, manage and enhance systems used to improve security at the U.S. borders and ports of entry, the company said.

Unisys will work on the office’s existing systems, and may also develop new systems to meet evolving border security requirements, the company said in a release.

3. Northrop wins $617M contract for Hawkeye UAVs

Northrop Grumman has won a $617 million contract modification to change a contract for Hawkeye unmanned aerial vehicle production to a firm-fixed-price contract.

The original advance acquisition contract called for five Full Rate Production Lot 1 E-2D Advanced Hawkeye aircraft.

2. 13 win $900M Navy cybersecurity contract

Thirteen companies have won a $899.5 million contract with the U.S. Navy to provide integrated cyber operations services to the Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center.

Under this new contract, the companies will compete for task orders to provide integrated cyber operations services, including full lifecycle support of C5ISR information operations, enterprise information services and space capabilities, the Defense Department said.

1. AF makes six NetCents 2 awards for $960M

Six companies have won spots on the Air Force NetCents 2 Applications contract, which the service will use to buy software and related services.

The companies will compete with each other for work such as sustainment, migration, integration, training, help desk support and testing and operational support.
