Unisys gains NASA flight simulation contract
NASA awarded a $48.5 million contract to Unisys Corp. to provide support for flight simulation research at Langley Research Center.
Unisys Corp. will provide simulation and aircraft technical services at NASA's Langley Research Center in Hampton, Va., under a five-year contract worth $48.5 million.
"This project builds on our 35 years supporting Langley Research Center's Flight Simulation and Software Branch," a Unisys spokesperson said. "Unisys will be responsible for making the center's individual IT subsystems operate properly, and [ensuring] that when integrated, all of them continue to perform efficiently."

Unisys — which designs, builds, and manages mission-critical environments for businesses and governments — will provide the Langley center with simulation-related hardware and software support services, including analysis, development, verification, validation, operations, maintenance, modification, and systems integration for Langley's flight simulation facilities and research aircraft systems.
“We chose Unisys to assist in our research in the area of aeronautics and space exploration [because] they can provide simulation and flight research support,” said Victoria Chung, chairwoman of NASA’s source evaluation team for the contract.
Chung said the flight simulation research, conducted on advanced simulated flight decks, is mostly commercial in nature and focuses on larger aircraft such as 757s, 787s and MD-11s.
Unisys, of Blue Bell, Pa., ranks No. 38 on Washington Technology’s 2010 Top 100 list of the largest federal government contractors.
