NIC inks portal management deal with Colorado

NIC Inc. has won a tight competition with large systems integrators for a long-term contract to provide Web portal services to the state of Colorado.

NIC, based in Olathe, Kan., won the contract following a competition that included BearingPoint Inc. of McLean, Va., and CGI-AMS of Fairfax, Va., the company said this week.

The five-year contract with four options years may be worth as much as $18 million if all options are exercised, said Chris Neff, a company spokesman.

Under the contract, Colorado Interactive Inc., a NIC subsidiary, will deploy a self-funded model to provide infrastructure and staff expertise to develop, maintain and host an e-government services portal. The state of Colorado will retain ownership of the content, data and statutory fees.

Colorado Interactive will move state and local e-government services with online payment functionality to NIC's payment engine, and plans to launch new services through the portal before the end of the year.

Through its subsidiaries, NIC now manages official state portals and provides related e-government services for 18 states, including Alabama, Indiana, Kentucky, Maine, Tennessee, Utah and Virginia.

NIC, a provider of e-government services and solutions, has nearly 300 employees and annual sales of $56.8 million, according to Hoover's Online of Austin, Texas.
