Federal Supply Service's Heffernan to retire Dec. 31

Don Heffernan, CIO of the Federal Supply Service, will retire at year's end after 30 years of federal service.

Heffernan said he will put out his own shingle, helping companies resolve contracting disputes. He also will do volunteer work.

Heffernan has been CIO for the General Services Administration agency since September 2001 and was deputy CIO before that. During his tenure with FSS, Heffernan led the development and implementation of eOffer to electronically submit schedule bids and e-Modifications to make online changes to vendors' schedule contracts. He also helped expand the role of GSA Advantage, e-Buy, the schedules e-Library and a number of other online tools.

Before coming to FSS, Heffernan, who spent his entire career with GSA, worked in the Office of the CIO and Office of the Administration, and served five years as the agency's director of personnel.
