Lockheed Martin Corp. of Bethesda, Md., won a $6.6 million research and development contract to work on the Defense Department's Polymorphic Computing Agent Architecture program, the agency said.

The program was set up to evaluate a new generation of computing hardware and software that will allow for advances in cognitive information processing algorithms and systems. Cognitive systems can reason and learn. Initial research will focus on using the technology in unmanned aerial vehicles.
