National Defense University introduces E-Gov Program

National Defense University's Information Resources Management College has introduced a new e-gov certificate program, the university announced Sept. 12. Geared to providing information needed to help agencies comply with the Office of Management and Budget's e-gov initiatives, the program is open to agency information managers and contractors directly involved in Defense Department work.

"This curriculum was developed to provide the new cross-boundary leadership skills needed to achieve the vision and goals of transformation into e-gov. I believe it is the first program of its kind that is devoted entirely to e-government," said Robert Childs, director of the Information Resources Management College.

The certificate requires completion within four years of eight courses selected from 14 available. Three new courses have been developed for this program: Transforming to eGovernment, eServices Planning for Improved Government Performance and Security, Privacy, and Access Issues in eGovernment. Also included in this certificate program is a recently developed course in Homeland Security.

The program offers both on-campus and distributed courses. On-site courses are held for five days, while distance-learning courses run for 10 to 12 weeks. Defense and civilian employees get first priority on enrollment. State and local government employees and industry employees working under an active Defense Department contract may attend if space is available.

To be eligible, applicants must have a bachelor's degree. Military personnel must be officers at O5 and O6 levels. Federal workers must be GS-13 through GS-15 or equivalent.
