Hansen to Build D.C. Licensing Portal

Find opportunities — and win them.

Hansen Information Technologies Inc. has won a contract to provide its online business licensing to the District of Columbia.

Hansen Information Technologies Inc., a provider of application solutions that manage the operations of e-government, has won a contract to provide its online business licensing to the District of Columbia, the company announced Aug. 22.

Under the terms of the contract, San Francisco-based Hansen will integrate its online licensing portal with back-office applications handled by the district's Department of Consumer and Regulatory Assistance. The company did not disclose the value of the contract.

The launch of the business licensing portal is a joint effort of the district's Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs and the Chief Technology Office. The department has been a Hansen customer for three years, beginning with implementation of the company's call-center solution.

The department licenses professionals and businesses; inspects and regulates building, housing and land; and enforces business laws for the city residents.

Instead of having multiple licenses per business, the department is using a single license with standardized "endorsements," representing each individual license. The department's goal is to have all of the endorsements available online.

The city of Washington expects between 30,000 to 40,000 new businesses to obtain a license or register their trade names each year.

Hansen's product suite of citizen relationship management products includes building permit, code enforcement, customer service, land management, licensing, work management and utility billing. The company has more than 350 employees.
