Group Suggests Billions for E-Gov

The Council for Excellence in Government unveiled a plan for achieving electronic government that recommends spending $3 billion and appointing an e-gov czar.

The council's plan, "E-Government: The Next American Revolution," is the result of a 14-month initiative led by the council and involving 350 information technology leaders in business, government and research nationwide. The council is composed of business, academic and former government leaders.

Recommendations to President Bush include a public-private council on e-government, creating an office of e-gov and information policy within the Office of Management and Budget, and appointing people to top executive branch positions who are committed to e-gov initiatives at their agencies.
