Find opportunities — and win them.

Veterans Affairs Department officials set up the multiple-award effort to bridge workforce gaps as it recruits more staff for biomedical engineering functions.

The Veterans Affairs Department is now ready for industry to start working on and turning in bids in pursuit of a potential five-year, $175 million contract to support VA’s biomedical initiatives.

Proposals for the new multiple-award contract are due by 3 p.m. Eastern time on March 30 and up to five companies will be selected, VA said in a Thursday notice to release the final solicitation.

VA officials set up the Biomedical Engineering Technical and Professional Support Services contract to help the department bridge workforce gaps as it recruits more full-time staff for its biomedical engineering functions.

BETPSS’ emphasis on talent is similar to VA’s Integrated Critical Staffing Program, which was awarded in 2024 to ensure continuity of care services amid widespread staffing shortages.

The scope of work includes corrective and planned maintenance of medical equipment, professional biomedical engineering services, and project management support. Contractors may also be relied upon to assist with surge needs such as emergency response support or operational readiness.

VA is also linking the new contract to major initiatives out of its Office of Electronic Health Record Modernization, which is overseeing the deployment of Cerner’s EHR to medical centers and other care facilities such as outpatient clinics.

VA will evaluate bids on three key factors including technical capability, past performance and price in that order of importance.
