Army Corps of Engineers seeks R&D support across multiple domains

A new broad agency announcement covers seven labs, emphasizes climate change, engineering, remote sensing and IT advancements.
The Army Corps of Engineers is looking for a wide scope of support for research-and-development work taking place in its network of laboratories and centers.
The Corps' broad agency announcement on its need is open-ended and the corps will accept proposals at any time. This BAA replaces a similar one released in May.
Some of the research support will cover areas such as hydraulics, coastal engineering, remote sensing, geotechnical engineering, energy and telecommunications management.
The 122-page BAA covers each areas of interest in detail and breaks down the work by each of seven labs the Army Corps of Engineers operates. Those include the Coastal and Hydraulics Lab, Geotechnical and Structures Lab, IT Lab, and Cold Regions Research and Engineering Lab.
Several of the research areas are focused on risks from climate change and extreme weather events. One example they provide is Hurricane Sandy’s flooding of New York City in 2012.
The emphasis at the IT Lab is on the areas of computer-aided interdisciplinary engineering, computer-aided design and drafting, building information modeling, high-performance computing, and sensor and instrumentation systems to name a few.
