Akima subsidiary books $563M Army facility support contract
Redstone Arsenal is home to approximately six dozen tenant agencies that run operations there.
An Akima subsidiary has secured a potential 10-year, $563 million contract for engineering and installation work at a key Army facility in Huntsville, Alabama, that has a government-wide function to it.
Akima Facilities Operations said Tuesday it will also be responsible for facility and equipment maintenance work, as well as environmental services at the Redstone Arsenal hub that takes in 36,000-to-40,000 government and contractor personnel each day.
“As a federal center of excellence, Redstone Arsenal is home to more than 65 tenant agencies. Its importance to northern Alabama and the nation is unquestioned," Scott Rauer, president of Akima's facilities solutions group, said in a release.
Rauer added that the subsidiary is expanding upon prior work it has performed at Redstone Arsenal under the new contract.
Redstone Arsenal houses some operations of multiple Defense Department components such as the Army Materiel Command, Space and Missile Defense Command, Missile Defense Agency, and Defense Intelligence Agency.
NASA's largest field center, the Marshall Space Flight Center, plus the Justice Department and FBI are also tenants at Redstone Arsenal.
For the Akima enterprise, the Redstone Arsenal contract is the second large booking it has announced within the past week.
Akima confirmed on Thursday that its Five Rivers Analytics subsidiary will proceed on a potential 10-year, $480 million Space Force contract first awarded in June. Five Rivers Analytics will help operate and maintain Space Force's primary satellite control network.
