Second Front Systems, a venture-backed developer of cloud-based national security software, has hired two-decade law and business veteran Drew Hoffman to the dual roles of president and chief legal officer.
Hoffman joins Second Front approximately six months after the 10-year-old company completed a $70 million Series C capital raise that involved Salesforce’s venture investment arm.
Most recently, Hoffman was a venture adviser at one of Second Front’s investors in New Enterprise Associates. He worked with NEA’s portfolio companies on strategy and operations.
He is also a former chief operating officer and general counsel for Echo, a multi-sector private equity and venture capital firm touting roughly $1.3 billion in assets under management.
“(Hoffman’s) proven track record in driving global expansion and scale, coupled with his deep understanding of corporate governance and risk mitigation, makes him an invaluable addition to our leadership team as we continue to power software for the free world,” Second Front chief executive Tyler Sweatt said in a release Friday.
Second Front’s network of backers also includes Booz Allen Hamilton’s venture capital arm, which entered that investment in early 2024.
Wilmington, Delaware-headquartered Second Front is structured as a public benefit corporation with the idea of balancing financial performance and also addressing societal and environmental challenges. PBCs must outline their public benefit goals in articles of incorporation.
Hoffman’s role at Echo involved responsibilities for operations, team development, legal and compliance functions, and the development of growth and mitigation strategies for portfolio companies.
His career also includes an eight-year tenure as president, COO and chief legal officer at the e-commerce company Le-Vel.
