Find opportunities — and win them.

The all-cash transaction also expands CACI International's presence with defense and national security agencies, plus reunites a pair of former Acacia Group businesses.

CACI International has acquired Applied Insight in a move that adds cloud migration and other related offerings to the buyer's portfolio.

Financial terms of the all-cash transaction announced Tuesday were not disclosed. Applied Insight was owned by Acacia Group, a private equity firm that stood up the business in 2018 after acquiring Intelligent Decisions.

Acacia separated Intelligent Decisions into two companies, the services business called Applied Insight and a product firm named ID Technologies.

Since then, Acacia has backed seven acquisitions that pushed Applied Insight's annual revenue from its $50 million starting point to more than $200 million in 2023. Applied Insight's most recent acquisition closed in January when it bought Zavada.

In Applied Insight, CACI saw several capabilities that build on their own as well as a similar focus on defense and national security customers.

“The combined business of CACI and Applied Insight will enhance enterprise-wide cloud, cyber, and user productivity for secure networks in the IC,” CACI CEO John Mengucci said in a release.

Those capabilities accelerate decision making and optimize mission outcomes for analysts and warfighters, Mengucci added.

CACI's acquisition of Applied Insight is also a reunion of sorts. In 2022, CACI acquired ID Technologies from Acacia at a price of $225 million.

Baird represented Applied Insight in the transaction and says it represents three major themes in the market:

  • Proprietary technology to dive market differentiation.
  • The government’s increasing adoption of commercial technology
  • The value of companies aligned with budget priorities, such as digital transformation and cloud migration.
