Nokia builds U.S. defense business with new acquisition
The global telecommunications company is bringing in new capabilities that work to create a so-called "Battlefield of Things" ecosystem.
Nokia has moved to build out its U.S. defense business with the acquisition of a company that specializes in defense communications systems used on the battlefield.
Terms were not disclosed for the transaction involving Fenix Group, which was acquired two years ago by Enlightenment Capital.
Fenix Group builds tactical communications products that provide high-speed, low latency data connections to multiple devices and users simultaneously.
“The acquisition of Fenix Group is an important milestone in our strategy to grow our defense business,” Tommi Uitto, president of mobile networks at Nokia, said in a release Tuesday.
When it purchased Fenix in 2021, Enlightenment Capital said the products created a “Battlefield of Things” sensor ecosystem that can connect unmanned systems, ground sensors, and commercial end-user devices into an edge network. The solutions span 5G, LTE and other mobile communications technologies.
