L3Harris Technologies has hired a new president for its communications segment in Samir "Sam" Mehta, a nearly two-decade industry veteran formerly of Raytheon Technologies.

Mehta's appointment is effective immediately. L3Harris said Tuesday that Mehta succeeds Dana Mehnert, who is retiring from the company after 38 years there including the past four as president.

The communications segment represented nearly one-fourth of L3Harris' revenue over the first nine months of 2022 and contains the company's tactical radio business, among other offerings and solutions.

At Raytheon, Mehta was most recently president of advanced structures for the Collins Aerospace subsidiary with responsibility over flight and aviation components.

Mehta also spent 17 years at the helicopter maker Sikorsky, including service as president of defense systems and services.
