Cook’s appointment to the role takes effect on Friday and he succeeds Dave King, who as CEO led the defense and space technology business through its sale to Leidos in early 2020.

King will work as a consultant to Dynetics in support of the transition and advise on strategic matters, Leidos said Tuesday.

In addition to, Leidos has elevated its national security space business leader Paul Engola to deputy group president for Dynetics.

A 13-year Dynetics veteran, Cook is also operations manager for the Leidos Innovation Center that concentrates on advanced technology development and rapid prototyping.

His career at Dynetics also includes time as head of corporate development and later as president of its technical solutions subsidiary.

Cook joined Dynetics in 2009 as director of space technologies after 11 years at NASA, where he served as manager of the Ares launch vehicle project office.
