Navy gives $123M boosts to Data Link Solutions, ViaSat radio terminal contracts

The Navy gives a pair of $123.4 million contract modifications to Data Link Solutions and ViaSat for continued radio terminal production.

The Navy has awarded a pair of three-year, $123.4 million contract modifications to Data Link Solutions and ViaSat for continued production of radio terminals that transmit data and voice communications.

Both awards lift the ceiling value of each contract to nearly $604 million and covers work through to June 2020. The contract covers production, development and sustainment of Multifunctional Information Distribution System Joint Tactical Radio Systems terminals.

Data Link Solutions is a joint venture of BAE Systems' U.S. subsidiary and Rockwell Collins.

MIDS JTRS terminals function as four-channel software-defined radios that support a system used to collect and distribute secure data and voice communications across air, sea and ground platforms.

The terminals also contain networking waveforms and are designed to incorporate three channels for future growth in network technology and data links.
