Accenture's federal shop elevates pair of execs

Accenture’s U.S. federal subsidiary has made a pair of promotions within its executive team with one of them elevating to a newly-created role for the business.

In a release Tuesday, Accenture Federal Services announced Christopher Copeland as its new chief technology officer and Kyle Michl in the new chief innovation officer post. Both are two-decade veterans of Accenture and will also serve as managing directors for the AFS shop.

Copeland is responsible for developing AFS’ future-looking technology vision and strategy, plus will oversee the business’ work in areas that are also priorities to chief information officers in government.

Michl will lead efforts to drive new growth opportunities and identify high-impact innovation strategies that focus on emerging technology incubation, rapid prototyping and co-creation of new solutions. He will also explore new technology ventures within AFS’ partner ecosystem.

Prior to this promotion, Copeland led AFS’ platform business group and also oversaw the development of the business’ first rapidly scalable cloud enterprise resource planning software program. The 22-year company veteran also was technology and operations lead for AFS’ work on the HealthCare.gov website.

In his past 23 years at Accenture, Michl helped steer the pursuit and capture of large opportunities such as the Air Force’s compute and store award for the branch’s larger Enterprise IT as a Service effort. He also worked with the Defense Logistics Agency on integrating cloud, cyber and analytics technologies.
