Unisys adds $144M NOAA cloud migration job

Unisys’ federal business has booked a potential five-year, $144 million contract to help the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration migrate its data and applications to a cloud computing environment.

This effort will see Unisys work with multiple infrastructure providers such as Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud to help NOAA use a multi-cloud environment in its mission of monitoring both weather and climate.

The blanket purchase agreement was awarded in the third quarter through the General Services Administration’s Multiple Award Schedule vehicle and covers one base year followed by up to four individual option years, Unisys said Monday.

NOAA received five total bids for the BPA including that of Unisys, according to Federal Procurement Data System information.

For Unisys, this award is the latest in a string of large wins for its federal arm that has driven a bulk of the company's top-line growth in recent years including the current one.

Unisys will apply its CloudForte product to help NOAA adopt enterprise-level commercial cloud capability in all forms: infrastructure-, platform- and software-as-a-service.

The company designed CloudForte to help users accommodate surges in usage. NOAA will deploy cloud access security broker technology to validate the content of cloud applications and block unauthorized content.
