Former GSA exec Alan Thomas heads to private sector

Government market investment firm Enlightenment Capital said Tuesday it has added to its advisory board Alan Thomas, former head of the General Services Administration’s acquisition shop.

Thomas will both become the 10th member of the board and join the executive team at Trowbridge & Trowbridge, the government IT services company Enlightenment acquired in April.

He will serve as executive vice president of special projects at Trowbridge & Trowbridge with emphasis on what the company called “strategic planning and analysis, mergers and acquisitions, and best practices for organizational efficiency and effectiveness.”

Most recently, Thomas was commissioner of GSA’s Federal Acquisition Service for two years and led the consolidation of the agency’s 24 Multiple Award Schedules contracts into a single, one-stop shop vehicle.

Thomas was responsible for the delivery of $60 billion in products, services and solutions to other federal agencies. His last day at GSA was Oct. 11, shortly after GSA issued the final solicitation for the MAS consolidation.

His career prior to GSA includes stints as a program analyst and program manager at the Defense Department with private sector experience at Booz Allen Hamilton, Compusearch and Data Networks Corp.
