Battelle sells its UAS tech to Dedrone

Battelle has sold its portfolio of hardware and software developed for unmanned aircraft to Dedrone, which will created a new defense unit.
Battelle has sold its portfolio of hardware and software developed for unmanned aircraft to Dedrone as that company sets up a defense consulting business.
The purchase of Battelle's DroneDefender announced Tuesday includes intellectual property and supports the creation of Dedrone Defense, a unit the buyer has started to offer small UAS detection and mitigation support to the U.S. military and civilian agencies.
Battelle developed the DroneDefender system as a complete hardware and software solution to analyze the activity of small unmanned aerial systems through the collection of data from sensors and radio frequency signals, plus information from WiFi and non-WiFi sources.
For Battelle, its goal in creating the DroneDefender offering was to develop the technology and then commercialize it quickly so it can be deployed in the field.
Battelle and Dedrone started their collaboration two years ago to develop a solution that can defend airspace for military agencies and critical infrastructure entities. The Defense and Homeland Security departments both use DroneDefender units.
Dedrone Defense will be based inside the parent company’s Washington, D.C. office.
