BAE Systems' U.S. board of directors elects former Army Undersecretary Patrick Murphy as a new member.

BAE Systems said Tuesday that former Army Undersecretary Patrick Murphy has been elected to the board of directors for the company’s U.S. subsidiary -- BAE Systems Inc.

Murphy’s term will run through April 2022 and he joins a group of outside directors that includes former Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff, who chairs the board of what BAE refers to internally as “Inc.”

Murphy served as acting Army secretary for five months during the Obama administration and was sworn in as the branch’s undersecretary in January 2016.

He is also a former House representative from Pennsylvania, having served between 2007 and 2011.
