Elbit Systems' U.S. arm closes buy of Harris night vision unit

Elbit Systems’ U.S. subsidiary has closed its $350 million acquisition of the former Harris Corp. night vision technology business and kept the leader of that division in his current role.

Fort Worth, Texas-based Elbit Systems of America agreed in April to purchase the division from Harris, which both sought and was required by antitrust regulators to find another home for the estimated $150 million-$160 million revenue unit as a precondition for closing the merger with L3 Technologies.

Now L3Harris Technologies, the almost three-month-old company retained the legacy L3 night vision and electro-optical technology division. Both the legacy Harris and L3 night vision businesses count U.S. military, law enforcement, first responder and partner nation agencies as customers.

The now Elbit Systems of America-owned division is headquartered in Roanoke, Virginia and has nearly 500 employees. Elbit also retained Erik Fox as vice president and general manager of the business as he lead the unit for the previous five years at Harris.
