Comcast unveils new federal arm, hires Folderauer

Find opportunities — and win them.

Comcast launches a new federal and public sector division to be led by telecom industry veteran Ken Folderauer.

Comcast has launched a new division within the global media giant’s business subsidiary that will focus on sales of communications services to U.S. federal government and public sector organizations.

As part of that launch, Comcast said Monday it has hired 35-year telecommunications and public sector veteran Ken Folderauer to the role of vice president of federal government sales. He will lead the development of Comcast’s U.S. public sector-focused sales channel, along with sales and go-to-market strategies.

Both the launch of the new division and hire of Folderauer follow efforts by the Comcast Business organization since 2006 to “steadily move up market from (small and medium-size business) customers to mid-market to large enterprise,” Comcast President Bill Stemper said in a release.

The announcement of this new division comes nearly a month after Comcast acquired cybersecurity company BluVector, once a business unit of Northrop Grumman and subsequently held by private equity.

More recently, Folderauer led the communications services division within Oracle’s national security group. He is also a former CEO of BT Federal -- the U.S. government subsidiary of British Telecom -- that is one of nine carriers on the General Services Administration’s $50 billion Enterprise Infrastructure Solutions contract for telecommunications services to federal agencies.

Folderauer led BT Federal to secure a place both on EIS and on the Defense Information Services Agency’s $4.3 billion Global Network Services contract also for telecom services.

Prior to BT Federal, he was president of the public sector for the former Time Warner telecommunications division.
