In-Q-Tel backs synthetic data platform outfit

Find opportunities — and win them.

Intelligence community investment arm In-Q-Tel partners with AI.Reverie to bring synthetic data platforms into government agencies.

In-Q-Tel, the intelligence community’s venture capital arm, has made an investment in computer vision algorithm company AI.Reverie to help bring that company’s synthetic data platform to government agencies.

Terms of the investment were undisclosed but IQT said in a release it seeks to help agencies acquire large amounts of data that can imitate real-world locations and objects in order to train mission-critical computer vision applications.

“It has the potential to significantly improve the accuracy of AI tools that detect objects and activity to keep our nation safe," said Peter Bronez, senior member of technical staff at IQT.

AI.Reverie designed its platform to generate new types of data that can teach, train and improve algorithms at scale.

The platform works to build photorealistic virtual worlds that can imitate locations, simulate difficult-to-reach places and generate automatically-annotated synthetic data.
