Culmen makes another federal tech M&A move

Global government logistics contractor Culmen International has made its second federal technology-focused acquisition since the last one it made six months ago.

This time around, Culmen said Tuesday it is buying big data business intelligence and visualization software company Centrifuge Systems.

Terms of the deal were undisclosed, but Culmen founder and CEO Dan Berkon said in a release that Centrifuge brings a “history of supporting the intelligence community, Defense Department, Homeland Security, civilian and state (and) local agencies, and commercial organizations' critical missions, from detecting cyber threats, to uncovering fraud, insider threats, health risks and beyond.”

Washington, D.C.-based Culmen is seeking to take Centrifuge’s data analytics offerings and bundle them into a larger package of services focused on big data discovery, advanced analytics, geospatial intelligence and link analysis.

Culmen added a greater public sector analytics footprint in June 2018 through its acquisition of the federal services business of PlanetRisk.

Centrifuge was founded in 2007 and is headquartered in McLean, Virginia.

During acquisition negotiations, Culmen was represented by Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman LLP while Centrifuge was represented by Morrison & Foerster LLP.
