Equinix wraps up Terremark federal integration

Interconnection and data center company Equinix has wrapped up its integration of the Terremark Federal Group business into the former's government business.

The move comes a little more than a year after Equinix closed its $3.6 billion acquisition of 29 data centers from Verizon in a deal that included the TFG business and secure facilities designed for use in the federal marketplace. Equinix said Tuesday the TFG integration was the final component from that transaction, which took place seven years after Verizon initially acquired Terremark.

With TFG in tow, the Equinix government business adds a pair of large data centers in Culpeper, Virginia -- 60 miles away from Washington, D.C -- and Miami that are used by federal agencies. Those centers have security and process in place for the government market.

Thirty-three TFG employees with government security clearances will join Equinix. The deal also grows Equinix's portfolio of contract vehicles.

Equinix's data centers house cloud computing services from top commercial vendors such as Amazon Web Services, Google, IBM, Microsoft, Oracle and SAP.
