General Dynamics elevates Gilliland to IT services division president

General Dynamics has promoted 12-year company veteran Amy Gilliland to president of the defense contractor's IT services division in a move to take effect Sept. 1.

Gilliland, current senior vice president and deputy for operations at General Dynamics IT, will take up one of two roles currently held by Dan Johnson, executive vice president of the company's information systems and technology segment.

Johnson will continue as executive VP for the IS&T segment and has held the role since January 2015. General Dynamics formed the IS&T group in January 2015 to comprise of the IT services division and the mission systems organization that makes communications hardware for military and space agencies.

The company is undertaking this change in leadership as IS&T faces market headwinds it attributed in part to a slowdown in contracting activity on the change in administration. First half sales for IS&T fell 6.4 percent to $4.25 billion and General Dynamics adjusted its full-year revenue forecast for the segment to flat versus last year's $9.19 billion figure.

General Dynamics also experienced a change in the composition of the segment's revenue profile during the last two quarters. Historically tilted in favor of hardware, the sales ratio between IT services and products has shifted to near 50-50 over the past six months.
