Lockheed takes potential $1B Navy sonar tech engineering contract

Lockheed Martin has received a potential $1.1 billion contract to carry out engineering services and development work on new sonar technology for U.S. Navy submarines.

The contract has a one-year, $130 million base value with undisclosed options that would extend the award to its full ceiling. Eighty-eight percent of the purchases are for the U.S. Navy and the rest for Australia, Canada, Japan and the U.K.

Services under the Technical Insertion 18-20 Acoustic Rapid Commercial-Off-The-Shelf Insertion program will support modernization requirements for submarines.

Solicitation documents list areas of work as including development, system engineering, integration, production, support and spares requirements.

A-RCI is a sonar system that works to integrate towed array, hull array, sphere array and other ship sensor processing technologies through rapid insertion of COTS based hardware and software.
