General Dynamics eyes cyber product growth through Advatech division buy

General Dynamics has purchased the electronics and communications division from Phoenix-based Advatech Pacific to add a pair of new technologies built for U.S. and international military agencies.

Terms of the transaction were not disclosed and the cyber product-making business will become a part of General Dynamics’ mission systems organization. Mission Systems is part of the company’s information systems and technology segment.

This acquisition comes 15 months after General Dynamics bought underwater drone maker Bluefin Robotics and subsequently integrated that company into the Mission Systems organization. Bluefin and ARMA Global in 2014 represent General Dynamics’ only notable acquisitions for the IS&T segment since 2012.

The deal with Advatech covers its TACDS and CenturionCDS products that are designed as tactical cross-domain technologies.

TACDS is National Security Agency-certified and built for use on both ground and aerial vehicles to exchange information. CenturionCDS weighs eight ounces and works to help soldiers on-the-move receive and send data.
