URS-Apptis, the IT business arm of URS Corp., has received federal approval to operate its FedCloud.com as an infrastructure-as-a-service portal so government agencies can use it to make purchases on the GSA schedules.

Powered by Amazon Web Services, FedCloud.com is a portal accessible only to federal, state or local government agencies and government contractors authorized to purchase from GSA schedules for use in satisfying their cloud computing infrastructure requirements, URS said in an announcement Sept. 15.

FedCloud.com can be accessed through commonly used procurement resources from GSA such as the popular eBuy program or the GSA’s Storefront – Apps.gov.

The approval to operate was granted after FedCloud.com met government security requirements and completed the Assessment and Authorization process in accordance with the Federal Information Security Management Act’s moderate security level, the announcement states.

URS Corp., of San Francisco, has approximately 48,000 employees in a network of offices in more than 40 countries.
