Transition Watch: Obama sees tech transforming government

President-elect Barack Obama sees technology as more than just a private-sector economic engine; it is a tool for helping the government lead the country into the future, according to a new report by e-Week.

Among the issues laid out in the magazine's report are reforming the H1-B visa program to reduce fraud and abuse. Obama also wants to expand the universal service fund to get more resources for expanding broadband capacity. Health IT also will be a priority.

But one of the biggest changes will be the new administration's promise to use technology to make government more open and transparent to citizens.
