JPL issues server consolidation RFI
NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory wants industry help in consolidating its growing inventory of IT servers.
NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory wants industry help in consolidating its growing inventory of information technology servers.
In a request for information issued May 8, officials said the facility's server inventory has exceeded capacity and they want to reduce the computing footprint through hardware consolidation and virtualization.
The laboratory is managed by the California Institute of Technology and has about 19,000 computers of various types, of which 5,600 are servers.
Interested vendors should review the lab's computing environment and offer strategies for consolidating servers. Respondents should also be prepared to conduct a virtualization demonstration with the assistance of JPL staff.
JPL will use the information to determine its consolidation strategy. Responses to the RFI are due by June 5.
