Federal Network Services Inc. will install and maintain a public video security system for the Santa Monica Pier and the Third Street Promenade in Santa Monica, Calif.

A key feature of the project is integrating the Public Video Security System with the city's security network.

Federal Network Services of Woodinville, Wash., will install 123 security cameras, 61 on the Pier and 62 on the Promenade. They will aid in detecting and investigating suspicious activity, including potential acts of terrorism. The contract is worth $1.3 million.

Federal Network Services recently completed video security system projects for the Veterans Administration Medical Center and clinics in Las Vegas, and the SBX-1 Platform for the Missile Defense Agency.

The Santa Monica Public Video Security System network will link the video cameras to the city's computer network for convenient monitoring. In addition, video from the cameras will be kept on a secure digital storage system, on equipment housed in the City's Public Safety Facility.

Installation of the security cameras and network will be completed in about 10 weeks.
