Marine Corps re-ups Unitech for laser simulation training

A form of laser tag used by the Marine Corps to train troops in mock battles will continue to be provided by Unitech.

Unitech, based in Centreville, Va., won a $14.6 million contract to provide support for the Marine Corps' Tactical Engagement Simulation Systems. The one-year base contract has four one-year options.

Unitech, which is the incumbent contractor on the project, will continue supporting and fielding the laser tag system, known as the Multiple Integrated Laser Engagement System.

The laser system uses low-power, eye-safe lasers to simulate the direct fire characteristics of various weapons. The contract covers simulation systems-related equipment issue and recovery, inventory control, equipment storage, repair, technical support to field training exercises, familiarization training, and overall program management support.

Unitech is a training and simulation, homeland security and technology solutions company. Over the past year, Unitech's simulation systems team has supplied and trained more than 50,000 marines and sailors, the company said.
