DOD requests proposals for spectrum center support

The estimated value of the contract is $661 million and the duration is for three base years and seven one-year options, according to the .The RFP is a recompete of an earlier contract that expires in August. The initial five-year, $276 million, cost-plus-award-fee contract was awarded to Alion Science and Technology of McLean, Va. The Joint Spectrum Center is DOD's center for electromagnetic spectrum management issues. JSC's mission is to ensure the department is using radio spectrum in an effective and efficient way.

The Defense Department is searching for a contractor to provide engineering services to its electromagnetic spectrum management center, as part of a follow-on contract first awarded in August 2000.

The Joint Spectrum Center, based in Annapolis, Md., posted a request for proposals today to have a vendor provide a wide range of services related to how the government manages and uses the spectrum. Industry responses are due by March 24.

Some of the services include:

  • Engineering and analysis

  • information management

  • standards development

  • test and evaluation

  • modeling and simulation

  • research of emerging technologies

  • ordnance risk assessment.
