Va. elects Unisys for voter registration system

Unisys Corp. has won a $6.1 million contract from the Virginia State Board of Elections to implement a statewide voter registration system, the company announced today.

The two-year contract, which has five one-year options, could be worth $8 million if all options are exercised.

Under the contract, Unisys of Blue Bell, Pa., will provide systems integration and ongoing support for the Virginia Election and Registration Information System.

The company will train Virginia State Board of Elections staff as well as local registrars throughout the state to use the system. The system will be completed in December.

Unisys' team includes Indianapolis, Ind.,-based Quest Information Systems Inc., which will deliver the software application, and Orem, Utah-based Aradyme Corp., which will provide database conversion.

The new system will bring the state into compliance with the Help America Vote Act of 2002. The act requires each state to establish and maintain a centralized voter registration database that is maintained and administered at the state level.

Unisys provides IT services and solution and has 36,400 employees and annual sales of $5.8 billion. The company ranked No. 36 on Washington Technology's 2004 Top 100 list, which measures federal contracting revenue.
